17/08/2024 - Sound PCB repair
Pre-show testing found the game playing without sound and there wasn't
enough time to fix it before show submission cut off so the game was side lined for 2024.
There was some speaker his hinting that the AR-II amplifiers were working so the game PCB
set was removed. On the bench, there was no sound confirming a sound PCB fault.
Using a scope to probe IC 3K (68B09) found:
- Pin 24 - D7 - idle lo
- Pin 25 - D6 - idle lo
- Pin 26 - D5 - intermittent idle hi/active
- Pin 27 - D4 - idle lo
- Pin 28 - D3 - idle lo
- Pin 29 - D2 - idle lo
- Pin 10 - D1 - idle lo
- Pin 31 - D0 - idle lo
- Pin 35 - Q - idle lo
- Pin 34 - E - idle lo
- Pin 3 - IRQ - idle hi
- Pin 37 - RESET - idle hi
- pin 11 - A3 - floating
- pin 12 - A4 - floating
- pin 19 - A11 - floating
- pin 10 - A12 - floating
The CPU did not appear to be running properly. Swapping out IC 3K (68B09) brought back sound
and a cross check confirmed the original 68B09 was bad.
