Roc'n Rope game display Zaccaria Super Cobra upright with Roc'n Rope

To add variety to the line up Konami Roc'n Rope was selected in place of Super Cobra for the 2026 show. The game uses the same joystick with two buttons, and being Konami has similar monitor settings, needing only a board swap. There wasn't enough time before the show to order a custom marque to go with it so a paper label was added instead.

Roc'n Rope failure

At the show the game made it to around noon on Sunday, failing with no boot and just a couple of lines on the display. As a new game PCB enduring the show, I suspected the game PCB had failed but with only three hours left to closing it was turned off for the remainder of the show.

Testing the game PCB on the bench found it working with no issues so attention turned to back to the cabinet. At the output of the 1B1126 power regulation board the +5V measured a low 4.0 VDC. Checking the AC input voltages found:

All the AC input voltages were correct. Checking for AC ripple found 1.65 VAC of ripple on the +5V line, indicating the main smoothing capacitor had failed. The 1B1126 power regulator board was cleaned & a cap kit fitted that fixed the game.
