Part way through show day 1 the monitor developed heavy ripple. I suspected that the 250V DC high voltage smoothing capacitor had failed, and I didn't have any spares at the show. A request for someone to bring a spare was sent out to the community.

On show day 2 both Dave Okert and Ed Fries brought approximate substitute capacitors to use for a temporary field repair. The capacitor was replaced and the game ran OK for the rest of the show.

The show field repair capacitor was replaced with the correct value and closer mechanical fit.

MTC-900 HV cup repair - before MTC-900 HV cup repair - after

During chassis removal the metal clasp on the HV cup had broken off. This is a common problem for this style of cup and it was repaired using a cut down screw through the clip hole into the plastic base that had been pre-drilled to match.

Pre-show testing of the spare game PCB found no/bad background graphics. Two of four 2114 graphics RAM had already been replaced. Checking IC 12F (2114) found pin 6 (DD1) idle low and pin 7 (DD2) idle low. IC 13F (2114) had the same results and IC 15F (2114) address bus looked OK. IC 12E (LS157) had also already been replaced. Checking IC 13E (LS157) found:

Working back to IC 14D (LS161) found:
I suspected IC 14D (Signetics LS161) was bad and a piggyback check fixed the graphics with ~2V clamped output signals visible on the scope. Replacing IC 14D (LS161) fixed the graphics and the signals looked healthy on the scope.
