Zaccaria Cat'n Mouse Maintenance 2023
01/06/2023 - Northwest Pinball and Arcade Show (2023)
Part way through show day 1 the monitor developed heavy ripple. I suspected that the
250V DC high voltage smoothing capacitor had failed, and I didn't have any spares at the show.
A request for someone to bring a spare was sent out to the community.
On show day 2 both Dave Okert and Ed Fries brought approximate substitute capacitors to
use for a temporary field repair. The capacitor was replaced and the game ran OK for the rest
of the show.
19/06/2023 - Hantarex MTC-900 chassis repair
The show field repair capacitor was replaced with the correct value and closer mechanical
fit.
During chassis removal the metal clasp on the HV cup had broken off. This is a common
problem for this style of cup and it was repaired using a cut down screw through the clip
hole into the plastic base that had been pre-drilled to match.
13/05/2024 - Game PCB PA20221120 repair
Pre-show testing of the spare game PCB found no/bad background graphics. Two of four 2114
graphics RAM had already been replaced. Checking IC 12F (2114) found pin 6 (DD1) idle low and
pin 7 (DD2) idle low. IC 13F (2114) had the same results and IC 15F (2114) address bus
looked OK. IC 12E (LS157) had also already been replaced. Checking IC 13E (LS157) found:
- pin 6 input 16H idle lo
- pin 10 input 64H idle lo
- pin 13 input 32H idle lo
Working back to IC 14D (LS161) found:
- pin 2 input CLK active
- pin 9 input LD active
- pin 10 input EP active
- pin 11 to 14 output all idle lo
I suspected IC 14D (Signetics LS161) was bad and a piggyback check fixed the graphics with
~2V clamped output signals visible on the scope. Replacing IC 14D (LS161) fixed the
graphics and the signals looked healthy on the scope.
